Driver & Dimmer Sizing Guide
A driver's rated output doesn't equal its safe continuous output. Running a driver at 100% of its rating continuously shortens its life and raises thermal risk — proper practice is to derate.
Our drivers are rated at 150W. Our strip draws 10W per metre. At an 80% safety derate, that gives a maximum safe run of 12 metres per driver — not the 15 metres the raw numbers might suggest.
The formula
Max safe run (metres) = (Driver rated watts × safety derate) ÷ strip watts per metre
150W × 0.8 ÷ 10W/m = 12m
For runs longer than 12m, add another driver — don't push a single driver past its safe derated capacity to avoid buying a second one. Dimmers are matched 1:1 with drivers by default in our kits.
